A Short Trip to Eldorado Canyon

Eldorado Canyon is a small state park that is nestled in a small corner just outside Boulder city limits. There is one road that runs through the small town of Eldorado Springs which can access the park. My trip there was short lived as I was hoping to catch the sunset and arrived too late, at around 3:30PM. Since I was hoping to catch the sunset, I was in a rush to get to the Continental Divide overlook via the Rattlesnake Gulch trail.

Above is the view from the Continental Divide overlook. The rocky peaks to the right are popular climbing areas. The little valley below is where Eldorado Springs is nestled. I must be honest, the view from the overlook was pretty, but I was disappointed because there weren’t too many good composition opportunities from up there. However, if you don’t lug a few pounds of photography equipment up a steep trial covered with ice, you’ll definitely enjoy the view.

Here is the other photo that I felt was any good. The first picture is facing east. This picture is facing exactly west. I must admit, it is quite a view for your eyes, just not for your camera.

Even though my first trip to Eldorado Canyon was something of a disappointment, I’m looking forward to heading back there and hiking some of the other trails, hopefully in better weather.
